Portugal has been beckoning me to return since my last retreat there. I was so impressed by its beauty, its people and its simple luxury of a slower pace. We’ll be in the southern part of the country called Algarve, known for its miles of cliffs overlooking sandy beaches, dotted with white-washed fishing villages and bustling beach towns.
-
Portugal’s southernmost region, Algarve is known for its breathtaking cliffs and caves overlooking pristine sandy beaches and brilliant blue Atlantic waters. Busling beach towns abutt small fishing villages, all with traditional Portuguese whitewashed architecture, rich history and delightful cuisine. The interior of the region is far less developed and rugged, with unspoilt views of the surrounding mountains.

Our home for the week is a formerly abandoned now fully restored village in Corgas Bravas, in the foothills of the Algarve mountains. Originally built by a Portuguese Army General in 1898, the main house and surrounding ruins have been fully transformed into a bespoke wellness retreat center. Defined by its spectacular uninterrupted 360° views of the Serra do Caldeirão mountains, famous for its Portuguese cortiça (cork) trees. There are no cars, no roads, no buildings, no neighbours. Nothing but wilderness and nature. All the rooms have spectacular views, en suite bathrooms, comfy beds and luxury linens. Amenities include a beautiful infinity pool that blends with the natural surroundings, sauna, massage rooms and big communal dining space to share our nourishing and delicious meals.

Twice daily yoga will take place in a giant state-of-the-art yoga shala voted “Best of Europe”. A wall of sliding glass doors to soak up the wild mountain views and feel the fresh air on your skin. Morning practice with be a deep and potent slow flow, intuitive and intelligent, with time for posture lessons and pranayama. Evenings will be restorative, with a sprinkling of yin, ending with deep relaxation.

Included in this trip are 3 special day trips:
-Historic Lagos old town. Roam through the city, encircled by large chunks of its old walls, built in the 1500s on top of much older Moorish defences. End the day with a visit to Ponta da Piedade, wander the limestone cliffs, explore the caves and take a dip in the cool emerald waters.
-Carvoeiro, a resort beach town with shops and cafes and a beautiful beach. Walk along Algor Seco cliff formations or take a boat and explore the Bengali caves.
-Our trip wouldn’t be complete without a visit to a local vineyard! Travel through a mountain road, over a roman bridge and find Quinta da Tôr, whose mission is to spread the traditional Algarve tastes and flavors.
