Come experience the rich culture and history of Oaxaca, Mexico, home to three UNESCO World Heritage sights. This retreat will orient around cultural immersion, visiting families of artisans & mezcal makers, ancient ruins and historical sights, and savoring authentic cuisine. Our home for the week belongs to famed Oaxacan singer, Lila Downs. An art piece itself, this quiet country villa has spacious rooms with ensuite baths, lush gardens and private pool for restful sleep and peaceful downtime.

The Mexican state of Oaxaca is renowned for its authentic culture and history. Home to several archeological ruins, annual festivals, included the famous Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), and long-standing traditions in crafts of weaving, ceramics, cooking and Mezcal distilling. Its historic city center is considered Mexico’s culinary capital, with lively markets and famed restaurants on every corner. Travel beyond the city center you’ll find sweeping mountain views, villages of craftspeople, mezcal plantations, ancient ruins and natural wonders.

Our home for the week belongs to legendary Oaxacan singer Lila Downs. And art-piece itself, the home is located in a country setting, 20 minutes outside of the city center. Spacious bedrooms all with en-suite baths, beautiful handmade tiles throughout, hand-carved wood details, lush outdoor garden with lounge area and private pool. The villa has a full-time staff, including a chef that will prepare our daily breakfasts and a few of our dinners. Dinners out we’ll be in Centro, sampling famed chef’s tasting menus and lesser known local favorites.

Yoga will take place at our villa in a bright and charming sunroom open to the gardens. Due to the daily itinerary we will alternate morning and afternoon practice. Expect a long, luxurious fluid flow ending with restorative postures and deep relaxation. Special attention is given to breath, nervous system regular and somatic (body) awareness.
